Site Update

The Lord of Leisure | August 16, 2007

Well the update was completed ahead of schedule. We are now running on a more secure version of WordPress, and the move on the web server has been completed, with downtime really just over an hour. Yes I know I said I was going to start at 8, but I couldn’t wait! So all in all business as usual.

I have also added a new feature – A photo gallery.

This is a trial basically.

So to start with here are the pictures from Glastonbury in Flash Form:
svgallery=Glastonbury

Other updates will be occuring soon. Stay Tuned Campers!!

(P.S. Bloody Linux has broke again becuase of the graphics. Methinks I should leave it alone till it’s caught up with the shiny 8800GTX that dwells in the evilbeast…)

24: Linux Issues

The Lord of Leisure | August 15, 2007

Well tonight was my first real night of installing the 7.04 release of Ubuntu on the powerful all-inspiring EvilBeast pc I put together a little while ago. And So far not so good. Already trashed the install once to due dodgy Nvidia drivers that Ubuntu downloaded for me, and to which I thought all would be well but no!!

As I type this, this is in the live CD state, waiting for the second attempt to finish. Also found an interesting bug. I have to enable “Wake-On-LAN” in Windows for the network card to work correctly in Ubuntu. Haven’t even got to really doing anything yet. And the Linux people out there wonder why more people use Windows over this? It takes a lot of time to learn, and methinks I would have to brush up on all of the commands to be able to troubleshoot from just the command line. Perhaps I have become over dependent on nice wizzy Windows in order to do command line stuff.

But really this hasn’t been as much fun as I thought. But it’s in a long list of things I want to have a play with including Microsoft Exchange 2003. Need to beef up my support skills and start learning new things, even if I get upset by them.

This concludes the geek news for today, just remember campers this site maybe down after 8pm tommorow for a short time. Never mind eh? :)

Site Downtime

The Lord of Leisure | August 14, 2007

Access to the webite may be down Thursday from 20:00 to up to 20:00 on Friday for maintenance to the WordPress backend of the website, It shouldn’t be down that long, it’s just to update to the latest version of WordPress. But also I am moving files on the server for better organisation which requires a DNS update and on the internet this can take up to 24 hours for the site to come back after the move. The site should remain up during this time, however in the event that the site goes off, A Placeholder Page will be in it’s place until the refresh. The sister site, travelsometimes.com will still be avalible.

As far as the site redesign implementation from All WordPress into Flash / PlasticBlog goes, the development will continue next week after I get back from the V festival. the basics are there, just need a lot of refinement. I need to read the How to Make a Web Site in Flash book a lot more!!

*Update* changed text to reflect further maintenance being taken on server.

24: Tis Tuesday

The Lord of Leisure | August 14, 2007

I wake up this morning and I feel refreshed, I actually went to bed early despite having things to do, getting home from work late, I was afforded a few extra hours at home today so I stayed in bed. I tell you what, it has done me the world of good. Guess burning the candle at both ends does get to you at some point.

Add to the fact that I have a bit of the lurgie, cough, cold could be man flu I guess, and all in all you can see why sleep is good. Mind you I always say Sleep is good, wish I could earn money sleeping, be a millionaire by now!

The weekend was mixed being perfectly Honest. After getting back from Acton Pigott the night before, and of course releasing podcast 8 to the unsuspecting masses (of which it definitely is about time) the old kitchen’s contents left on the garden was taken away in a rental van that we hired, a quick stop off in Mancot to pickup rubbish there and then back again. It didn’t take that long as it goes and well I learned something else too. Lifting heavy stuff hurts. :)

In the evening I made my way to Natalie, for we were to enjoy an evening of fun and frolics at Steve and Kristi’s only for Nat’s work to fowl that up. People were expected at 5 and 6, and they turn up 4 hours later. And I even played driver to a Russian couple. Hmm, fun.

Needless to say was most annoyed.

Sunday was better, after helping out a bit with guests, came back and finished a few bits for the web site that I wanted to do, and then went back to Wrexham for the first time in quite a while now for the Hospital Radio, with my current ills, it was best not to walk around the wards. And I made a bit of a gaff with a patients name.

His surname is Puvy, and I ended up saying Pervy. Yep basically I called someone pervy. I am so fired! Not the first time I mispronounced something there anyway, it’s normally the Welsh names that get me, hey ho! At the very least I have never seen so many people collapse with laughter.

From Wrexham, drove to Shrewsbury to Steve and Kristi’s (Think of Sunday as “Take 2”) and met up with them there, Natalie arrived afterwards with company, a German girl staying at the B&B who is over here learning English for three weeks before going back.

Katarina (I think that’s how it’s spelt) is her name, met her a few times already, we all watched the Simpsons movie together and we were bringing her along as she actually hasn’t been out and about to anywhere really. That’s not good is it? Though now she keeps on saying indeed after I said it. Hmm. Anyway, we had some nice El Paso wrap things, had a good laugh, played Buzz (A narrow victory here, I just guess better than others!

Mind you that’s the only game I have half a chance at it), we also gave the new Singstar a go (the 90’s version) and I got to sing badly Everybody Hurts by REM. Love that song, and yes if they do another tour in Britain I am going boyo. My throat was killing then, and basically it could be heard. It was a jolly good evening, and once again thanks be to our hosts. They are off island hopping in Greece soon, and that should be fun.

Monday was spent really being ill at work. Nice. Well campers I have to go and sort a few bits out before driving to work today so for now cheerio.

24: Flash. AHHHHHH!

The Lord of Leisure | August 10, 2007

He’s not of us, dee duh dee duh dun duh.

Sorry was having a flashback (pun not intended) to that film, just remembering Brain Flying Blessed, and others. Strange that as it goes. Production is nearing the end on Podcast 8 and that will 100% guaranteed to be the weekend. And I can mainly promise that becuase I just have to add background music and that is it! Job is a goodun!

Other things happened this week includes the car saga from March is still going. I have to resend everything to Norwich Union as they didn’t bother contacting the Swinton as I said to them a long long time ago. Useless buggers they really are. Never Mind. And the V Festival Tickets arrived today with the excitement starting to build up for next week already, ooh it’s going to be fun.

Ah, it appears my time is up at work at the moment. Will have to go, and will post more later on. Take it easy campers!!

24: Something from the Weekend

The Lord of Leisure | August 7, 2007

Hello Campers, I have returned from the weekend all goose pimply. Had a very good time on Saturday Night with Will, Karen and Natalie. Will and Karen btw I should have mentioned are two other people who have been doing the same Radio Thing as I have been, there was another fella, Andy, but he stayed behind in the Windsor (which i kept thinking was called the Winchester like off Shaun of The Dead) to put out some “emotional” fires.

Long story, don’t really know it but it revolves around the two women from Will’s workplace’s leaving doo, and well it was an eye-opener then let me tell you. It made for an interesting evening to say the least.

Once we escaped from the SS, we wandered along to the Bar Academy, and well, my idea of what it was was changed from what I thought, to what I saw. My god, it was a student hangout! The place was tiny as well considering, and i swear the place was a double as a sauna. Reckon if we waited longer we would have seen two Swedish businessmen walk around in just towels. And it has been a long time since I felt so old.

Remember kids, I am only 24, that is considered still to be sprightly these days, but in the bar, it did look like the 4 of us were the oldest! There was a band on before the Mexicolas, who well, didn’t excite the imagination with the crowd (I say crowd, well eh, we’ll call them a gathering for the time being) and their second to last song was the best one, quite mellow, it had a tune.

Then after we pushed our way through the cro…..air, to see them perform and I have to tell you, their stuff is not that bad. Some good tunes all in all and their single, Shame is quite a catchy number as well. I do suggest you go to their MySpace page and give it a listen Mexicolas MySpace Link.

Right that’s enough plugging, the evening actually ended rather earlier than I thought it would, this was simply because Will had this strange ability to lose control of his legs. Now if I were a cynical man, I would have said that was due to the amount of drink. We all agreed to call it a evening and wandered off, though there should be a full night out in Brummieland soon I hope as I rather enjoyed the night.

Sunday went into just messing around with the PC getting stuff sorted out as you and and Monday was spent having the day off, catching up with other bits and bobs for the course, and monday night, watched a Russian film called NightWatch.

It revolves around good vs. evil and there is this truce between, there are two watches and both go after each side if either brake the truce. And apparently the worst thing you can do is curse another human. Sort of confused me as it seemed disjointed in the story, but hey you have to see these things.

Today have been getting used to work again, and well it’s been a tad slow, so have been suing the opportunity to one, type this, and two get some more work done on the radio course. I should also start revising for the 70-290 Windows 2003 exam, as I don’t actually have that skill in writing. It would be a boost to say the least.

Well campers, once again My time is up, all that remains to say is Good Hunting!!

24: The news in not so brief a form

The Lord of Leisure | August 3, 2007

Hello campers, I write this very late on a Friday night after having lots of fun with the electrics at home. Who knew a light switch could cause all the lights downstairs to fail? Well I know now, i guess it’s true what they say, keep up the maintenance or there be trouble. Today, spent the day at home helping Daddy in the kitchen.

Well I say that, it was lifting heavy s**te around the place as the work goes on, as it goes it is coming along pretty well, the sink needs to be fitted, and the doors and decoration need to take place but after that the place will be ready for use. Which is nice. Yes I took a day off Work to do DIY. Clearly there is something wrong with me at this moment. PLEASE HELP ME!

I also had fun after sleeping in the car all night Thursday having forgotten my house keys and therefore had to wait until the next day when the doors were opened by Dad to allow me in to get a couple of hours extra sleep. Isn’t it a bugger when you don’t have spares?

Tomorrow will be another work day, but in the evening, courtesy of Mike Owen Media, I along with others are special guests at the Bar Academy in Birmingham to see the Mexicolas perform live as part of the HMV/KERRANG! FM SHOWCASE.

You may wonder who they are, in which you should visit Mexicolas’ My Space Page to listen to their music and maybe even buy their new single. Mike is the man who runs the Radio course I am on, and he is promoting the band through his firm, and as a result we have been added to the guest list, possibly could meet them after the show as well.

Oh, I feel all showbizzy. Is that even a word? Well it is now! Not decided if the camera should be taken, but at the very least will write about it on this lovely blog of mine.

Hmm, as I think about it again, there are lots of things to do and no time to do it in. Sounds like Business as usual. And I have lost count the amount of times I have said that on these many posts. I just wonder how many times I have also wondered on these posts, I always get the feeling I am repeating myself half the time, the plus side is no-one has said anything, though some cynical so and so’s would say that means no-one is reading this.

Well I prefer to live in Magic-Land, so for now there are people reading this.

Seen the Simpsons Movie, and I thought it wasn’t that bad, some very good jokes, but Homer to me was a waste of time. He was there to be the assh**e of the story and even at the end I wished harm upon him.

Some of the jokes were very good as it goes, but some others….oh dear. All that remains to see is Transformers and I will have caught up with the good films so far. Though I did also promise Pete Harman I would watch Spinal Tap, I was meant to watch it a long time ago and I did get up to the bit where they have a problem with the Sexist Album cover (what’s wrong with being sexy?), which was brilliant! But I will have to start again. Mate I will get around to watching it, I promise!

Well this post was meant to be a brief note, but never mind eh? I like writing, it gives me something nice to do, besides DIY. Woe is me tomorrow day, yeeha is me tomorrow night!

ROCK ON CAMPERS!
