24: I Don’t like Mondays

The Lord of Leisure | April 30, 2007

Tell me why!

Well after a cracker of a weekend, it seems a bit of an anti-climax to be back at work again, but there we are, we can’t go through what little existance we have enjoying ourselves now can we? Where would be the point of that? :)

Anyway, i am going to be a complete so and so now, as yes the Alton Towers Trip is being kept behind for mr podcast but that has been released, i will also put some pictures online for you all to enjoy as well. Twas a great weekend and once again I can’t help but thinking: why am i doing uni again? But never mind!!

But there is other news anyway campers which I will tell: Friday Night, went out with Nat for dinner, yes I know pushing the boat outr a bit, but then again we hadn’t done anything like that in ages, it was at the ASK restaurant in Shrewsbury, really nice italian place, where muchus foodus was consumedus. Had a good chat about this and that, and also had a good look around for the ladies, but there weren’t many there aside from one waitress. Nat couldn’t find anyone that stood out either, so with that in mind….

We went to the flicks to see Next, for one reason: Jessica Biel, ooh sometimes she makes me feel a bit funny inside :) , but in case you are wondering, Nat was watching for Julianne Moore… ok then. The film itself was actually quite good, so not all was lost on just eye candy.

Saturday was Alton Tower Day. I am saying no more for the moment!! Oh the excitement building again, you could bottle it!

Sunday was clearing up the garden, told someone their router was knackered and had some fun out in wrexham. And provided assitance to Mr Middleton’s enterprise. Fun filled throughout really.

Now tonight, I am off to the gym as I now am a stone heavier and it really shows. My god, i’m even more of a fat b*****d than before. NOOOOOOO! After that more fun on mr interweb.

Take it easy campers and i will pass more words of wisdom soon. BWAHAHAHAHA etc.

24: Here’s the news with Ed Winchester

The Lord of Leisure | April 27, 2007

Well campers, tis been almost a week since last I updated the blog and therefore I feel an update is more than required. You need it, it’s like a drug if I hold back for too long, you start getting the shakes!

The written Uni work for the most part is now finished. Oh dear god yes!!! There maybe some work to be done on the Strategic Management (Or Human Resources it seems) assignment next week after it’s been reviewed but other than that all that remains is three measly exams that stands between me and the summer of fun. Victory is Mine!

As you may have guessed I am happy by this turn of events… :) Was even happier on Thursday when a lovely woman asked me if I was going down :) , but that story I am saving for the podcast. I have to, it’s a lot funnier when you hear it as opposed to reading it.

With that in mind, the weekend brings all sorts of goodness. Tonight I attend dinner and a movie with my lady friend of the moment, the lovely russian Natalie, and then tommorow comes something which should be interesting: Alton Towers. Oh yes, following from last year’s successful trip where basically we all said we were Dave’s Helpers (as he has one arm) and pushed in front of all the queues, tommorow brings the sequel to that trip with more people, nicer weather hopefully, and the chance to prove that once and for all, i can handle the rapids without vomiting. Of course knowing my luck, they will take on the upside rides first so my stomach is ready and waiting to release its contents ever upward!!

Work has been going down a treat as it goes, and I somehow have been the arcitect to a solution, this being the product known as ISA Server 2000. No-One knows how it works here, and frankly neither to do I. But that didn’t stop me from having a play to see what happens If i did this that or the other. As you do. And I arrived at the solution which was setting up new rules and allowed protocals for IIS servers and also correcting an incorrect setting for the proxy, and lowe and behold I was hailed as a genius. Well done etc, ah it just felt like you know, when you release a great big fart and you feel less bloated. That’s how wednesday felt. It was all good. Also began pursuing my promotion with earnest, writing down all that I had done for projects and other work, along with writing in criteria I meet for the higher grade. I do fit in a lot of the boxes thought it seems. The main reason for this is MONEY. No other real reason really, I have to be honest about that, but the chance of jumping 10K plus for going up a grade, some effort must be used. I know, I know, effort is a dangerous thing to use at the best of times but then again I need wonga to pursue my dreams of taking over the wor…bugger. Move on, nothing to read here…

My New Microphone arrived yesterday, I am taking this podcast business seriously as this mic is worth a fair amount of wedge. A samson CO3u Condensor mic with a thing that lessens the sound of moving the mic and sounds from other directions, it has a full USB interface which is a lot better than the mic I had before, that was fine but the conncetion was always fickle and Recording so far seems to be more responsive, I also sound slightly more like me in real life so that will frighten a few people!! The script is coming on nicely, you will love the introduction btw! Oh yes, Hollywood can’t do better than i have created. (insert laugh here).

Mum’s away on Holiday atm, so the only family member left in the country is my sister who is cmoing to visit tommorow, oh just as I am away at Alton. Boo Hoo etc. :)

And keep an eye out for Travelsometimes, a new venture by one Mr. Steve Middleton. He has been around a bit (but enough on his social life) and he has decieded to share his expereinces (quiet at the back) of travelling around the world (see, not what you were thinking) and the new site will be avalible soon. As for my “not-so-secret if you know where to look” project, it is still in the design stage and will be until after the 17th of May after my last exam, then more time can be used for that endevour.

All in all, i feel better now uni is coming to an end for the summer and I will have more time to waste on things. Proper Bo, campers!

P.S. Glyn how did you get on? Tell Me now or I will be jolly annoyed! :)
P.P.S Slaughter I listened to your last cast mate, but haven’t had a chance to email yet, will do it the weekend!!

24: Tis the season to be silly…

The Lord of Leisure | April 21, 2007

Well, i say silly, more relaxed as the weather in recent days has been brilliant. Walking outside, not needing a coat, it’s been a welcome change to the normal british weather folks. Now you may think oh dear, he’s talking about the weather now! Well it’s just one of those things you are expected to do. It’s always a topic of conversation and everyone has something to say on it.

Now on this Saturday morn, there isn’t an awful lot that’s happened around these parts, whereas this week, has shown that the “silly season has kicked in.” I refer of course to the dramatic events over in America, where they have had to add a checkbox to the University application forms stating if you are a homocidal maniac or not.

It deeply disturbs me every time something like this happens, becuase it puts the idea in my head, that this can happen at any moment just one more nutter to cause so much agony. He had even gone to the trouble of producing a video with pictures of why he was doing it while on the killing spree, that’s quite an achievement really, becuase i must admit that’s not something I would have thought of doing. Then again I wouldn’t have thought of just wandering around wolverhampton uni just killing people.

Granted He will do no further harm to others in this life, but his video etc which was shown across the world has earned him status, and people know who he is. That video will haunt the family and friends of those lost for a long time. Problem is, it will happen again and again. We all know it will, it’s only a matter of time.

Of course this opened up the whole Gun debate, should there be more control etc. The answer to me is yes, but as Slaughter pointed out to me, where there’s a will there is a way, even over here in blighty we currently have gang members with guns on the streets wandering around shooting each other (which I am 100% fine with, if they want to each EACH OTHER, and no one else, I say let them) But it’s yet another example why the land of the free holds many wonders and dangers all at once.

Tis not often I comment on Events happening in the real world (my world is nice and fluffy, well the walls are anyway) but considering things like this shake the foundation of society for its evil intent and insanity, it can’t be allowed to pass.

Thursday, spoke to my good friends Mr. Tebbutt and Mr. Middleton about the super secret project which will take place over the coming months, hoping for a summer release but can’t promise anything. Reason why they know is their expertise on the subject in question and i would be an idiot not to consult them.

The Podcast is at the moment, we have the music and the opening sequence sorted along with new lines from Slaughter but nothing further yet. Will have to knuckle down on that after the uni work. Uni work got extended so more time will be wasted on that.

Friday worked late into the night migrating a system to the windows 2003 platform again, but also had a wander around the telford area after Chez said come join us. I tried to, but alas it all went up the wall. I did go to the same place, Naughty Nell’s which was dead, but the doorman with dreadlocks was nice to talk to as you wait. Had one drink didn’t see them anywhere, tried ringing but no joy so at 12 midnight, as i was knackered had enough and went home to sleep.

The weekend presents some challenges to overcome and a nice social gathering (well if work doesn’t crop up again that is), I will tell you all about those soon. Take care campers, and I hope all is well in your neck of the woods, where ever that may be…

Hugs and Kisses
Paul

Coming Soon (Again)

The Lord of Leisure | April 18, 2007

A pretty big project will be in the works soon, for this whole blog, the podcast everything.

When Uni is over it will be taking a lot of time setting up getting right but in the end, you may or may not think what is the point? but hey i think the end result will speak for itself.

See, yet another what is it? And this time it’s not going to be left for the podcast as it will take some time to complete properly. But once it is done, you will know about it. WOW. Right, back to writing rubbish for assignments!

24: See I am not going to make you wait!!

The Lord of Leisure | April 15, 2007

As promised here is the update you have all been waiting for!! The afoot things are:

1) The car wasn’t ready yesterday as promised due to the salesman not taxing the car. Hmm. Seems to be a slight silliness there, naturally i was not happy and at one point wasn’t sure if I was going to go for it. Anyway, I have been given another car to use until monday when I go back for 6pm to pick it up and if all is well on the bodywork as well, then give the rest of the money.

Got a full tank of petrol to drive away with as well with my new car which is an added bouns.

However the hire car from the insurence had to go back and I must say, the VW Polo car was brilliant to drive, felt really confortable, smooth to drive, like I said before the only fault with it was I couldn’t afford it!! It is a shame, but all good things must come to an end. Next car i get, which hopefully for just financial reasons will not be for a fair few years, i will look at the VW range seriously. What can i say further?

2) Well friends the love life had taken a bit of pounding really, as I hadn’t seen natalie in a fair while, and even then it is not as regular as work is taking over. I did see Nat friday however as the work which was due to take place on the friday had fallen through due to incorrect paperwork and the fact that they were very late in getting approval that nothing could be done. hahahaha!! Though would have loved to have know this far far sooner so then could have made better plans. Went to see the film shooter with Nat, and well it was alright but not overly fantastic film. She was just happy to be there with me.

But in all honesty It feels like we are taking a break from each other, even though it is only due to work and uni commitments at present. I don’t know, tis strange to say the least. And I get the feeling this is beginning to take a toll. Role on the summer for gods sakes!!

3) Saw Dave (”Sunny Wales” Dave) yesterday as I was in the neighbourhood and thought it would be jolly rude to not see him. Had a good chinwag at the Rainbow pub about plans etc, and the future, and it was a refreshing and relaxing change. And as it was a excellent day to be outside, what more do you need? Dave, Hope you get the rest you need mate!!

4) Lost on the Grand National. Never mind, you just have to. National duty or something….

*** GEEK ALERT ***
5) Sunday Morning so far, was spent fixing someone’s laptop. SVCHOST.exe was using a fair amount of system resource again, I experience this on my laptop a number of times, but only narrowed it down to Windows Installer 3.1 recently, there is a hotfix out there for this btw, search for KB893803 on Microsoft Technet. This solved the problem and Keith is happy. Extra money follows now!! :)

6) I have a swanky new phone too, as Orange were most persistent in trying to keep me on their contracts!! The tariff has changed despite costing the same money each month, and now I have unlimited texts to use (well they say fair use applies, but I am not likely to use over say, 5000 texts per month any time soon!!) plus 500 minutes talk time!! And a new phone which costs an awful lot for free. Quite pleased really.

The phone is the Motorola KRZR K1 to be precise, which is a phone first and foremost!! Yes the Windows Smartphone I had before, the C600 from Orange is no longer in use boys and girls, may sell that on ebay to get a few quid despite the hammered condition it is in. It still works of course, but the motorola has not needed a reboot for Bluetooth to work yet, so it has already won! There is Phone tools software which came with it but it doesn’t work with the phone, one quick email to Support later, got the beta version which does work and now I can plug in the phone to the laptop and use it as a modem, or indeed sending text messages via the laptop instead of using the handset!! It never worked on the old Nokia 6230 I had years ago, but it does on this. Shame Office 2007 is not supported yet, but a new version is due soon and this should be corrected. I still can’t believe it, the phone works!! Also the memory card that came with the phone (128MB) broke straught away, but luckly I had already ordered a Sandisk 1GB MicroSD card (can use it in the phone or with the adapter, the Digital Camera, which is excellent) and that has proven to be very good. All in all quite good!!

*** END OF GEEK ALERT ***

7) Friday saw some of the old gang from Telford and Surronding areas: Steve has returned from Estonia (and a brief segway to Latvia to take photos) and he had a nice time. Excellent. Meant to be going bowling with the gang on Monday, but as the car has ruled that out, it will have to be another time. Damn it!! Saw Matt as well after, and yes good people he is still alive!! Toby never really says much but never mind!

8) Assignment work is still in progress. Over 500 words now for Project managment!! Believe me that is an achievement for something which is complete rubbish!

And that is it! See Glyn, i didn’t wait did I?

Update on the weekend

The Lord of Leisure | April 13, 2007

Things are afoot my dear campers, hopefully all will be well and after next thursday it will be even better as both uni assignments will be in, and I won;t care about them again. Just the exams left (all bloody 3 of them) Hell I have now even started on the assignments!! Isn’t that an achievement in it’s self, well I have the headings and a couple of paragraphs for the introduction on both of them but hell at least I have now started them, and that can be the hardest thing!! I am typing this up at the early hours of friday morning, as really with all the crap this week, this is the first real chance i have had, so i got up extra early to write.

Hopefully a full blown update will follow the weekend, as I sincerly hope i have my new shiny ford car tommorow, but buggered otherwise, as the hire car wants the Polo back (sob, why oh god why?!!?!) And other treachery is afoot on other fronts. Yes I even mean the love life in that statement.

You see that’s what you do on previews, you build it up to draw people in and then you finally deliver the product, you pee people off at the severe lack of substance. Hell TV’s been doing it for years, so I am doing it now!?!?!

Bye good people!

Happy Easter

The Lord of Leisure | April 8, 2007

Well on this fantastic easter sunday I wish you all a great easter, don’t have too many eggs, and I will speak to you all soon. Just doing some much much needed tidying up in the front room as it turned into a complete tip which is unfair to Aunty Bett, and later on will finish the podcast, and play more WOW.

And maybe, just maybe tommorow I will actually start on the last two uni assignments which I have just been putting off and off. It’s been a very busy weekend so far actually, things are progressing nicely it must be said.

Laura’s Party was on last night, had a jolly good laugh etc, and spent two days driving around looking for cars. Got one now (in thoery if they fix all that we asked) and I shall reveal more at a later time.

For now, go outside and enjoy the sunshine. It doesn’t happen that often in Britain so have fun!! Take care campers.

The Lord of Leisure | April 5, 2007

I know, I said I would update Tuesday Night, and here we are on Thursday!! Well I said i was going to say stuff which is going on, but I am going to be a gimp now and hold some of it for mr podcast which should in theory be out Easter Monday.

Yes, it’s sooner than you think!

On a plus note as well I have all 4 days off which is nice, I go car shopping tommorow to see what is to be had at my price range, would really like an old Ford Focus or VW Golf, but again reality has to kick in somewhere. WOW, wasn’t that dull? Can’t wait for the next update now, can you? Thought not! Bye Campers!
